Description

This is a typical sword belt rig as manufactured circa 1861-1863 at the Richmond Arsenal in Virginia.  It is readily identified as such by the bullet shape of the stitching on the belt.

The cast two piece “CS” tongue and wreath buckle is crisp and unmolested and the leather is very supple—a rarity—most are so brittle they snap if you look at them hard!  The few known examples, generally brittle and in tatters typically retail for around $6500-7500 today.

This example is likely infantry as there is no provision for an over the shoulder strap which was used with mounted sword belt rigs.

If you are looking for a pleasing and investment grade belt that you can actually display on a uniform, you need look no more—you have found a very nice one!
