Description
Fine little English beast made by Richard Hollis (active 1829-1853) who is listed as a gun stocker at Court, 3 Lench Street, Birmingham and also a Gun Maker, 79 Weaman Street, 1847-53. He inherited his father’s gunmaking business and was also located at 20 St. Mary’s Row in 1833 as Gun Maker. Weapons such as this were very popular with soldiers on both sides during the Civil War–only a single shot percussion weapon, it was extremely deadly at close range.
