Description
Incredibly rare little antebellum pistol, less than 500 ever produced and fewer than a dozen known to have survived. This single shot .34 caliber percussion handgun was produced circa 1855 by Thomas K. Bacon who previously made parts for gun firms such as Ethan Allen and Allen and Thurber. His company was formed around 1848 but by 1857, Bacon abandoned his company and began to work with Manhattan Firearms.
The underhammer model was noted as being one of his finest products even though production was very limited. This is only the second example I have seen in over 45+ years in the trade.
Small “boot” pistols such as this were commonly carried in the field by Civil War soldiers who wanted a little extra close range protection….
