Description
One of the last of the Civil War era, this M1860 pattern is near mint condition overall and retains the original bullion officer sword knot. The blade is crisply etched “Ames Manufacturing Company, Chicopee, Mass” at the ricasso and the diamond shaped blade is 3/4 covered in military and US panels (with generous frosting remaining). The folding counterguard has a tiny bend not affecting the function and there is a bit of corrosion on the face of the guard, which will come off easily with olive oil.
If you are a collector of US pattern military swords, you will have a difficult time finding a better example.
