Description

This is an exceptional example of the standard issue sword plate worn by both enlisted cavalry and non-commissioned officer infantry during the Civil War era.

The back is engraved “Marion Jones April 6, 1968” and the plate also has the belt bench number of 909 stamped on the reverse.  Although I am not positive, I believe the plate was a gift to Ms. Jones, born in the UK, as she emigrated to the United States and became a citizen in 1968.

There is no question it is an original American manufactured regulation Civil War era sword belt plate, however, and has a nice “personal touch” as well.
