Description
One of the strongest built of all of the trapdoor .45-70 series, the Model 1884 was equipped with a ramrod that doubled as a bayonet and screwdriver! This fine example was manufactured and issued in 1887 from the Springfield Armory and retains 90%+ original finish overall. Action is perfect and the bore is fine–and all markings are incredibly clear and crisp.
This pattern of infantry weapon was used through the Spanish American War and was far superior in firepower to the .30-40 Krag that replaced them in service. The Krag held more cartridges (as the 1884 is a single shot) but was far less accurate and significantly weaker in range and takedown power.
This pattern is referenced as Flayderman #9A-381 and is one of approximately 232,500 manufactured over the years of use. This example also utilized a bronze firing pin unlike the other models.
