Description
Fresh from an estate sale in Tennessee, this old war beast was manufactured in 1847 and likely saw service in both the Mexican and Civil Wars. It is fully functional overall and exhibits a deep brown age patina which in uniform and smooth overall. The middle and upper band springs are missing—no idea why!
These large bore weapons often used the infamous “buck and ball” cartridges and were deadly accurate up to about 80 yards. Markings are a bit muted by natural age patina but quite visible. Even the stock cartouche is present and visible. The action is tight and crisp and the bore isn’t badly pitted. These weapons saw heavy service both North and South for all four years of the War and were reliable and durable in the field.
