Description
One of about 16,000 produced under direct US Government contract, this fine old war horse was manufactured in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is undated.
It was arsenal converted to percussion in the 1850s so thus saw service in both the Mexican War and Civil War, and possibly the Seminole Wars.
This example is in overall untouched condition and was found in an estate in central Kentucky about 9 years back with no related history other than it had been in the same family a very long time. It is a standard .69 caliber smoothbore musket and is missing the ramrod.
