Description
This Model 1855 Rifle-Musket was manufactured at the Springfield Armory in 1858. The stock is in its original untouched oil finished black walnut. The lockplate and cheek plate edges are very sharp/crisp.
All three barrel bands present with the correct serif “U” on the right side with the band retaining springs. The forend cap is steel and secured by an interior screw. Original correct ramrod with tulip shaped head and retaining swell with threaded end unaltered. Original trigger guard and iron buttplate is present. Buttplate with standard “US” present.
Original lockplate with beveled edges marked “1858” horizontally to the rear of the hammer. Front of lockplate marked “U.S./Springfield”. Original Maynard tape primer assembly is present and is fully functional, all parts perfect condition. Lockplate primer door with the correct American wing spread eagle. All lockplate markings sharps and crisp. Some minor age blemish.
Original 40” long rifle barrel has correct “VP” and “eagle” proof marks with “1858” date on flat part of breech. All marks sharp and crisp. Barrel edges around breech sharp. All metal smooth with a nice armory bright finish. Barrel rifling sharp. Action is perfect and crisp! Looking for a nice untouched Model 1855 here it is.
