Description

Found in a Civil War Confederate camp at Fredericksburg, Virginia, this hard times token is in remarkable condition since it was buried in the dirt for over 160+ years!  It is called a “Shin Plaster” token and clearly dated 1837.  It has the motif of a Phoenix bird, a symbol of rebirth from the ashes–interesting for the times!
