Description
One of the rarest pieces of leather gear extant, this is a fine original example of the interlocking 2-piece “CS” tongue and wreath buckle on original leather as manufactured at the Richmond Depot in Virginia early in the War. You can still see the stitching were the hangers were attached. This fine rig was in a well known collection for many decades and sold in 2018 by Richard Ferry Antiques of Florida, a well known and respected dealer in Confederate goods.
The belt has several cracks from age but finding any “bullet stitched” original belt is near IMPOSSIBLE today and very few exist. This one is a real beauty with wonderful original, uncleaned patina and it still has the original collection tag on the back of the plate as shown. Museum and investment grade all the way!
