Description

This is a beautiful example of a very rare dagger generally called the chained SS.  One of two links are missing, as shown, perhaps a result of it being ripped from the owner by a GI who wanted a trophy!

The Model 1936 dagger was introduced by Himmler and presented to officers, NCO’s and SS members who had joined prior to January 1933.  The chain was believed to be designed by Karl Diebitsch and has octagonal plates embossed with the SS deaths head and SS runes.

The suspension clip is embossed with an ancient Germanic motif called a Wotans knot.  Production of the daggers ceased by the end of 1942, so surviving examples are exceptionally rare.

This fine example has clear RZM markings and also the original portapee, which is an army “Heer” type due to the military status.
