Description
This forage or bummers cap is an original example from the Civil War era with original insignia still attached, which is very rarely encountered. The insignia indicates the cap was used by a member of Company C, 1st Regiment Infantry, but unfortunately there is no positive association to any particular regiment or solider. The wool body has a few minor areas of insect damage, such as on the reeded top edge, but is overall in sound condition. The chinstrap appears to be a modern replacement, but the buckle is original. The full sweatband and body is intact. This is an inexpensive original wartime example of the standard issue cap worn by virtually all Union enlisted soldiers from 1861-1865.
