Description

This  is the first example of the larger bore Colt Root percussion pistol we have even seen since the 1990s! Most all were in .28 caliber and this example, manufactured in 1865 (#9474), slipped out during the last year of the Civil War.

The action is crisp and the cylinder rotates properly. There are very generous amounts of original bright charcoal blue as shown in the images.  The cylinder scene is clear and all markings are legible. The only flaw is very minor…the small bead front sight is missing and appears to have been gone forever.  The holster is a military flap type that was secured by a button which is no longer present.  The sidehammer series of revolver was patterned from the bigger brother revolving shotguns, carbines and rifles and the larger .31 caliber series is not often encountered–and we have never seen one with an original holster!
