Description
This fine weapon is overall in very solid condition and has a nice bore and strong action. The only weak spot noted is that due to natural wear, the loading lever latch won’t hold fully closed all of the time—that is easily remedied by widening the set pin but I leave items exactly as I purchase them.
This rifle was manufactured circa 1863 and is a standard second model of which approximately 20,000 were produced, mostly as carbines. The Maynard carbine could also come with a shotgun or rifle barrel (rifles and carbines could be .50 or .35 caliber) by special order.
This rifle has a 26” barrel and is set up with a tangent rear sight for long range shooting. The .35 rifle was known for its incredible accuracy and was a favorite of Southern forces, when they could get their hands on one!
