Description

Ithaca Model 1911A1 semi automatic pistol in .45 ACP. Serial number- 1874278. This 1911A1 is in great condition for its age and comes with one magazine, which is of later vintage (but military issued). Stamps: “ITHACA GUN CO., INC./ ITHACA. N.Y.” on left side of slide, “FJA” Ordnance inspector’s mark (of Lt. Col. Frank J. Atwood who was the U.S. Army Ordnance officer in charge of war production in the Rochester district of New York from 1942 to 1946 at both the Remington Rand and Ithaca factories) and “P” proof mark near mag release and “UNITED STATES PROPERTY NO. 1874278” and “M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY” on the right side.

Ithaca manufactured a total 335,466 pistols under Government contract from 1943 to 1945, making this a 2nd year Ithaca production. This pistol is in exceptional condition overall and has a fine bore and crisp action.

The barrel is numbered 7791193 indicating that the barrel was replaced after WWII, which is very common on field issued and carried weapons.
