Description
This fine old weapon recently surfaced out of an old collection in central Virginia that hasn’t seen the light of day since the late 1950s. At first glance, it is a standard Model 1842 smoothbore musket as made at Harpers Ferry Arsenal, Virginia, but look closer and the awesome details pop out! First, it has an incredible condition linen and leather sling of the pattern generally associated with the M1816 type muskets. The kicker? A very legible full name carved deeply into the buttstock of R. Funk–and there is only ONE MAN in the United States in 1861 with that name–Reuben Funk of Virginia, who served in the famed brigade of STONEWALL JACKSON! You can have a lot of fun learning about Reuben and his military service–and it will be quite the read. Rare, rare, rare….
