Description

Very early example by Ames Manufacturing that is clearly dated 1833.  No scabbard remains.  It appears that a lanyard hole was once in the grip which has been filled with a brass plug—perhaps a former owner used a wrist strap with it.  Often called the “Roman Gladiator” pattern, this hefty weapon was sturdy and used throughout several wars.
