Description
This is an unlisted pattern of officer sword which looks to be the product of Henry Sauerbier of Newark, New Jersey. Many of his sword blades and scabbards were believed imported from France and Germany early in the War and mounted with furniture manufactured in New Jersey. While unmarked other than for the etched blade, which shows a panoplay of arms and patriotic motifs such as a large US on the blade, the form is identical to his products which were marked. A unique sword worthy of inclusion in any Civil War collection. No scabbard.
