Description

Absolutely one of the most unmolested examples I have seen in decades, this fantastic relic was recently discovered in the attic of an antebellum home in Wilmington, NC, and looks like it has been in the same place since the Civil War years!  At some point in its history, something either stomped the guard or a soldier fell while wearing it as the guard is dented as shown–but not broken!  The blade is an Emerson and Silver as manufactured under government contract in 1864 and all markings are strong and clear.  The blade retains not only the full original grip and wire, but also the leather throat washer.  I’ll bet this one could tell a story or two!

Emerson and Silver of Trenton, New Jersey,  supplied 27,060 light cavalry sabers on contract to the U.S. government during the Civil War.
