Crisp example of the advanced edition of the preceding US M1873 Springfield “Trap Door” rifle retaining well over 95% original blued and case color finish. This weapon also has a crisp US inspector mark and date of 1886 as well as a fine bore. The only flaw is a small chip from the tang of the breech, not really affecting anything. These weapons saw extensive use in the westward expansion of the United States and were still being used during the Spanish American War, with some states retaining them well into the 1920s era. Known as reliable and very powerful, they were far better weapons in actual combat that the US Model 1898 Krag Rifle which replaced them.
