Description

This is an excellent example of the Baltimore/Philadelphia school of American eagle head swords as manufactured from the early-1780s to no later than 1805.  The straight blade indicates it was carried by and infantry officer and the grip and wire appear to be original.  This sword was once in the collection of noted author and historian George Neumann who published several books on Revolutionary War weapons and equipment.  While brass mounted eagle heads are plentiful, silver mounted examples are quite rare to find on the open collector market and fewer than 10% are thought to have survived, as many were scrapped for the silver used to make them.
