Description
Nice original example of the standard canteen of the Union Army during the American Civil War, the Model 1858. The tin canteen features a pewter drinking/pouring spout, a fine wool cover in brownish tan and the original worsted linen/cotton sling of a type common to Ohio infantry and cavalry units. Found in an estate sale near Toledo, Ohio, but no known history. Sling is broken, as shown, but easily repaired. No stopper.
