Description

This is an unlisted variant of the standard pattern of infantry officer sword of staff rank as carried in the field.  The wooden grip never had leather covering, indicating the blade was likely made in France and exported to the US.  The blade is etched and overall the sword is untouched and as found.  Many of these variants are private purchase swords so they did not have to fully conform to US regulations.  It appears to be the same pattern as sold by Henry Sauerbier of Newark, New Jersey, during the early War years.
