Description
This pair of original antebellum shoulder epaulettes showed up in an estate auction in Morganton, NC and have the initials of R.L.W. (Robert Layfayette Walker) who served in Company K, 6th NC State Troops, from 1862 until the surrender at Appomattox Court House in 1865. Walker was noted as wounded at Sharpsburg (Antietam) but survived the War.
Items such as this were common dress early in the War for both NCO’s and lower ranking officers, but very few examples survived. This pair shows honest age and use wear and would look great in any collection of Civil War artifacts.
