Description
This is a very solid and honest example of the weapon that SHOULD have been adopted by the US Army instead of the M1873 Trapdoor, but the national armory got the contracts instead. The Remington was a far superior weapon both with function and reliability for military use, but politics got in the way of reason and it mainly was sold to state militias and to foreign governments. This particular weapon was likely purchased by the State of New York and possibly saw service in the Indian and Spanish American Wars.
The bore size is unmarked but it appears to be the standard .43 caliber. Thousands of these weapons were also sold to Argentina and Denmark well into the 1880s era. It is a key item for any collection that reflects the types of weapons manufactured and used by the American military.
