Description
One of the most prolific of all antebellum to post-Civil War American manufactured percussion revolvers, the M1849 Pocket was a .31 caliber percussion revolver manufactured by Colt that was an immediate success with the pistol market! This example has all matching serial numbers, tight action and crisp and clear markings overall. Most original finish is long gone but there is no serious pitting. The walnut grips are solid as well and free of major defects other than the normal dings and dents from actual use. The rolled cylinder scene of a stagecoach holdup is clear and strong and the front sight is original. These revolvers were heavily carried by soldiers on both sides in the Civil War but due to the caliber, none were purchased by the government. From the California Gold Fields to the days of western expansion, these solid weapons saw it all. This example is fresh to the collector market and recently surfaced in a collection in western North Carolina.
