Description

This fine old war weapon came from the noted collection of Paul Davies who authored a book on the weapons manufactured at the Richmond Armory in Virginia.  The weapon was one of the first he purchased and was sold along with the rest of his collection over two decades ago.  His original tag is still on it.

It is what is generally called a Type III medium high hump Richmond and is dated 1862.  The iron buttplate was never stamped “US” and likely was part of the items captured at Harpers Ferry arsenal which were sent to Richmond.

The weapon overall shows moderate field use and has evidence of being cleaned MANY years ago.  The barrel breech is devoid of any markings at all, again indicating many of the parts utilized were blanks from Harpers Ferry which was typical on Richmonds manufactured in early 1862.  The hammer is a correct Richmond pattern with the small notch at the base of the percussion area.
