Description
This pattern of socket bayonet is called the Fayetteville socket bayonet and it fits all of the rifles manufactured at the Confederate States Armory at Fayetteville, NC, which did not have provision for the sword bayonet. It features a longer than typical blade and the socket is annealed to the blade, unlike most bayonets that are forged in one piece.
It closely resembles the bayonets manufactured for Drake Conversions of the M1841 Mississippi Rifle but is totally devoid of any markings. It also resembles those made for the Remington Maynard conversion rifle muskets but, unlike those, it is annealed at the socket. This is the first of this pattern I have seen on the collector market in over 15+ years ! Very rare item.
