Description
This is an English manufactured P53 Tower Enfield rifled musket which is complete with the original ramrod, rear sight and all other parts. It has a very strong rifled .577 bore and the lockplate and breech of the barrel are devoid of any markings at all.
The nosecap, triggerguard and buttplate are cast in brass, as are the lockplate escutcheon washers. This weapon is a mid-19th century produced item for the British East India Company, however, and was likely never used in the American Civil War.
It may have been used by a living historian as the leather and linen sling is a reproduction from the 1960s centennial era. It has aged nicely because of field use somewhere and from a close distance, most could not tell the weapon from the exports to the South and North.
The only thing that positively notes where is was used are the markings on the rear sight, which are Far Eastern. Mechanically it functions properly and physically it is a very attractive antique weapon—just priced at about HALF what most are today.
