Description

This beauty is a true arsenal altered 1825 dated Springfield musket that was converted to the 31″ barrel length and used as a musketoon in the field.  Often carried by Southern cavalry, the majority of these saw service as artillery weapons in the field.  It has a an exceptional arsenal bright finish and the walnut stock is near fine, as is the bore.  The action is as tight and crisp as new and all markings are very strong and legible.  Fewer than 500 of this type of weapon are known to have been produced in the late 1850s era and most all saw not only Civil War service, but many of them were used in the Mexican War prior as flintlock three band muskets.
