Description

A wonderful example of one of the best Colt revolvers ever made, the graceful and perfectly balanced Model 1851.  This beauty is about as crisp as it was in 1866 and retains generous amounts of original blue and case color.  The timing is flawless and the bore exceptional.  If you ever wanted to shoot an original, this one would do well (note that we do NOT warrant any weapon that old to be safe to fire–always have a competent firearms expert inspect it first).

This beauty was produced directly following the Civil War and may have gone west as it surfaced in an estate in South Dakota.  The grips, screws and markings are all near perfect as well.  It would add to ANY collection of Civil War items or fine American firearms!

Chambered in .36 caliber, many of the early models were actually issued to US cavalry units until the Model 1860, chambered in .44 caliber, was introduced.  Many famous Civil War generals including Robert E. Lee had one!  These models were NOT specific to the US Navy at all…the name merely reflects the CALIBER of the weapon.  The “Army,” likewise, merely means it was a .44 caliber.
