Description
This beauty is a standard example of the US model 1855 oval enlisted infantry belt plate with arrowhead hooks as manufactured circa 1861-1863. The patina is absolutely stunning—a coppery brown—and it is in as-found original condition.
This buckle was found in an estate sale near Houston, Texas along with a superbly brown Model 1851 Colt Navy percussion revolver which was manufactured in 1861. There was no known association between the two items, but they may well have been owned by a former soldier.
The owners of the property did not even know the items were in the attic of the 1840s antebellum home (which had left the original owner family in the 1960s) until it was cleaned out prior to being sold.
