Description
This is simply one of the FINEST dug examples of the Atlanta Arsenal CSA “small” buckle known to exist. It is a very early field recovered plate from Tennessee, but the location was not stated in the old collection notes. No Civil War collection is complete without one of these and if you want the BEST AVAILABLE ANYWHERE, you have found it!
I don’t have a Mullinax handy, but Steve sold this exact plate in 2005. Images provided from Gavin’s monumental work on Civil War plates, long before Kerksis or Mullinax were published! It is the plate in the center and is a wonderful chocolate brown…color just looks different because of the background and use of a flash to show details.
