Description
Very solid example of the weapon that came after the US M1842 musket and before the M1861 rifle musket, the M1855! This is a very honest example in near flawless mechanical condition of the weapon that used not only percussion caps, but the Maynard tape primer system. Both the barrel and lockplate are clearly dated 1859. Manufactured at the US Springfield Armory in Massachusetts, this fine weapon had great balance and incredible accuracy with the newly adopted minie ball system in caliber .58 and was well respected in the field by soldiers on BOTH sides, Union and Confederate. One of the most elegantly styled weapons of the era and in exceptional as-found estate condition overall. Complimentary insured shipping the the lower 48 United States.
