A fine example of a battlefield excavated Union field artillery Schenkl pattern 3″ artillery shell as purchased by the Federal Ordnance Department and found on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia, in the 1960s.  It exhibits seven vertical raised ribs on the tapered cone.  Stamped on the brass percussion fuze is “J.P.
