Description
This is one of the very few of this model that actually was available for officer purchase during the Civil War. All known wartime examples have diamond elliptical blades and this one has the clear etching of Ames Manufacturing of Chicopee, Massachusetts. It is in absolutely fine condition overall and retains the full shagreen grip covering and wire wrap. The scabbard, which was originally blued, has mellowed into a fine smooth plum brown overall. The blade etching is crisp and there are generous amounts of original frosting on the blade. The tip is near flawless. No Civil War collection is complete without one of these!
