Description
This is a rare custom pattern Model 1860 Henry .44-40 caliber rifle made in Italy in the 1970s for Val Forgett of Navy Arms. This was one of the very first Henry reproductions brought into the U.S. by this well known and respected company, noted for extremely high quality replica functional Civil War era weapons. Most of these were manufactured by Uberti, the same company that still manufactures official Colt black powder revolvers.
It has the standard 24-inch barrel and weighs 9 3/4 pounds with an internal capacity of 13 rounds. The rifle remains in excellent condition other than for one tiny blemish mid way down the right side of the barrel, as shown. The 1860 Henry design represents one of the earliest successful repeating rifle platforms and helped pave the way for the lever-action rifles that would later define the American frontier. These custom crafted faithful reproductions allow modern shooters to experience the look and feel of these historic firearms—an area of firearms history that Val Forgett clearly adored.
As the weapon pattern became obsolete and no longer in manufacture after 1866, the rifle is exempt from Federal Regulations under the GCA of 1968. It is not, however, allowed to be directly shipped to a resident of New York, New Jersey or California due to state laws and must be mailed to either an FFL dealer or one who holds a C&R license in their state of residence.
The last example like this sold at auction in 2007 in excess of $4,400. Considering an original now commands well over $35,000+ this one is an absolute STEAL!
NOTE: Collector firearms are NOT warranted safe to fire–always have a firearm checked out by a competent gunsmith prior to use.
