Description
This is a scarce sword and absolutely correct for the Civil War contract by Horstmann with the US Marine Corps. It closely resembles the standard US Model 1840 NCO pattern but the grip is longer, more tapered, and the left “kidney” shape of the guard is manufactured laying down—pure Marine regulation. Very few of these swords are known to have survived as the Marines were a very small branch of service at that time. No scabbard.
