Description
This is the FINEST example of this rare variant of the US Model 1850 Infantry officer sword which has the field grade or line officer METAL scabbard instead of the common and standard brass mounted leather ones. This beauty retains 90%++ gilt, frosty etching and even the deep blued finish to the scabbard. The etching is crisp and clean and the blade has only minor speckles of oxidation. The scabbard is as fine as I have ever seen to date and the markings are all crisp and legible. If you want one of the very BEST examples of this rare pattern, here it is! Most all of this particular pattern were produced from 1859-1862 according to existing Ames records. Many of these actually went SOUTH, too, in the antebellum era. Just stunning.
