Description
This is a very fine condition higher grade CS interlocking tongue and wreath belt set fresh from a family in central VIrginia. It has very loose family provenance to an officer in the 17th Virginia Infantry (but nothing solid enough to state it as fact, unfortunately). It is a high grade leather double rolled belt and all stitching is original to the set, no doubt. The belt plate itself is likely a Virginia armory item, possibly sold to a private vendor to mount–it is not a Richmond Depot issue based on the lack of “bullet” stitching–or it could have been intended for officer use. Most enlisted grade depot pieces are on piece leather with a rolled upper and lower edge, not a rolled and sewn type.
This is in incredibly high condition, supple and would make a wonderful addition to ANY Civil War collection!
