Description
This is a very attractive and solid example of the standard sword of the mounted cavalry and dragoons from 1840 through the end of the American Civil War. The grip is tight with all leather present and the blade is mostly bright with only tiny nicks and wear. While some feel this model was purchased by Confederate agents, there is no definative proof I know of. Many thousands of Model 1840s came into the United States as early as 1841 and as late as 1865—mainly for Northern agents. Whichever side it was on, the condition is solid!
