Very early Civil War used M1851 Colt Navy revolver, 2nd Illinois Cavalry !

This exceptional Colt .36 caliber percussion revolver was manufactured prior to the Civil War in 1856 and falls into the direct range of handguns documented as issued to the 2nd Illinois Cavalry in 1861 according to the Springfield Research Service database. All numbers match, markings are crisp, and the mechanical function is excellent. It has a very clear cylinder scene and 20% silver wash remains on the brass portions. 75% +/- original grip varnish is present as well.

The 2nd Regiment, Illinois Cavalry was organized at Camp Butler, Ill., and mustered in August 12, 1861. Their initial service was duty in the Military District of Cairo until February, 1862.
