Description
This is a totally un-messed with example of the standard sword carried by both Union and Confederate low ranking infantry officers in the Civil War. It is totally brown and unmolested overall, having just been discovered in the attic of an old home in central South Carolina. No maker marks are visible. The leather grip is tight and complete but the wire wrap has been missing forever. The blade does not appear to have been etched, indicating it was an inexpensive example or perhaps one sold to a Southern officer early in the War. If you are looking for an original sword that likely encountered the “elephant” and are on a budget, you have struck relic gold!
